Job Goal: To provide effective instruction designed to meet the educational needs of adults lacking basic skills, and/or to assist students in acquiring the skills to prepare for the GED Exam.

Reports to: Adult Education Lead Teacher.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Understand and respond to the needs of adult learners.
  • Plan effectively for the learning of each student through diagnosis, perception, and evaluation.
  • Manage instruction in the classroom to provide maximum learning opportunities for each student.
  • Prepare and evaluate materials for learning.
  • Integrate software into curriculum when appropriate.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, and supplies following district policy.
  • Maintain necessary permanent/teacher and student records.
  • Participate in the planning and evaluation of the adult education program.
  • Keep Student Progress/Study Guide up to date.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Refer students to proper sources when needed.
  • Provide a positive model for adult students.
  • Direct instruction in subject area.
  • Attend all required SDE/Lexington Four adult education meetings & trainings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: At least a Bachelor's Degree (with a SC Teaching Certificate).
  • Experience: Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively to accomplish pre-determined goals, and a high degree of initiative to implement positive changes within the existing system.

Physical Requirements: Requires light work that involves walking, bending, or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.

Terms of Employment: Based on the Lexington 4 Adult Education Staff Salary Schedule; Part Time - Between 12-15 Hours per Week.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy and the State Department of Education Evaluation Process.
