Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field; valid State Athletic Trainer Certification; and eligible for South Carolina Teaching Certification in Sports Medicine, or a related field, or CATE work-based licensure.

Job Goal: Plan, organise, and supervise school athletic training programme. Athletic Training duties to include prevention of athletic injuries, recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries. Create a class environment favourable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, behaviours, and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for future education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good working relationships with parents and other staff members.

Reports to: Principal & Athletic Director

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Develops plans for providing athletic trainer coverage at athletic events on a schedule cooperatively determined by the athletic trainer and athletic director.
  • Establishes daily hours of operation for the athletic training room.
  • Provides for evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries.
  • Refers athletes to medical facilities when necessary.
  • Designs and supervises rehabilitation programmes for athletic injuries under the direction of a referring physician.
  • Responsible for developing comprehensive emergency plans for specific facility.
  • Provides for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective taping, wraps, and braces.
  • Advises coaches of flexibility, strengthening, and conditioning programmes to help prevent injuries and optimise performance.
  • Maintains high-quality medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures.
  • Complies with all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by District regulations.
  • Supervises athletic training for student aides.
  • Serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents.
  • Counsels athletes on health-related issues including nutrition and substance abuse.
  • Teaches district approved curriculum aligned with South Carolina curriculum standards.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and translates them into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Provides individualised and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to needs of each student.
  • Communicates with parents and guardians outside of normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, calls, conferences, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behaviour to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and enters grades in district software programmes.
  • Makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Supervises classroom and students and volunteers.
  • Meets standards set forth by State Department of Education Evaluation Process.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions: Conducts duties in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to various environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to detail. Physical demands may require the lifting or moving of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional local or out-of-state travel is required; some overnight travel may be required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.

Terms of Employment: 220 Day-Contract based on the 2026-2027 Lexington Four Teacher Salary Schedule.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy and the State Department of Education Evaluation Process.
