Qualifications

  • Each school nurse must hold a current license issued by the State Board of Nursing to practice as a professional registered nurse or as a licensed practical nurse who is working under the supervision of a professional registered nurse.

The duties and responsibilities of a school nurse are to be prescribed by the principal in accordance with the laws and regulations governing nursing in South Carolina. If a school nurse works in more than one school, his or her duties and responsibilities are to be prescribed by the district superintendent or his or her designee in accordance with the laws and regulations governing nursing in South Carolina.

Job Goal

  • Administer medical assistance and first aid to students according to district and school health program procedures.
  • Refer students and guardians to community agencies and professionals as needed.
  • Maintain school health records.

Reports To: Principal

Performance Responsibilities

  • Dispenses prescription and non-prescription medications as directed by physician.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential health records of students.
  • Obtains and maintains student immunization records.
  • Participates in district-wide health screening programs and determines if further medical consultation or treatment is necessary or advisable.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor/district nurse.

Terms of Employment: 190 days based on Lexington 4 Nurse Salary Schedule

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.
