Lexington Ashworth Solicitors is an SRA regulated law firm based in Greater Manchester, providing strategic legal services with a strong focus on client care, professionalism and regulatory compliance. As part of the continued expansion of our Criminal Defence Department, we are seeking an experienced Duty Solicitor / Criminal Defence Solicitor to support our immediate duty solicitor rota requirements.

We are seeking a CLAS Accredited Duty Solicitor to join our Criminal Defence team and actively support participation in duty solicitor rotas, criminal legal aid casework and wider criminal defence matters. This role is suitable for an experienced Criminal Defence Solicitor / Duty Solicitor who is able to undertake police station representation, Magistrates’ Court advocacy, criminal case preparation and legal aid criminal defence work as part of a growing criminal department. The role is based across Stockport and Manchester City Centre, with hybrid working considered depending on operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Active participation in Duty Solicitor Rotas
  • Police Station Representation and criminal legal aid advice
  • Magistrates’ Court advocacy and criminal case conduct
  • Criminal legal aid casework and file management
  • Advising and representing clients in criminal defence matters
  • Drafting legal documents, case preparation and legal research
  • Supporting legal aid operational and rota requirements
  • Maintaining high standards of client care, compliance and professional conduct
Essential Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a current practising certificate
  • Current CLAS / Duty Solicitor Accreditation (essential)
  • Eligible and available for Duty Solicitor rota work
  • Experience in criminal defence law
  • Experience in Police Station and Magistrates’ Court work
  • Strong advocacy, drafting and criminal case management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong professional judgment and adherence to regulatory obligations
