The Winter Writer Scheme marked Lex Weekly’s first careers initiative, providing two students (either first-year law undergraduates or second-year non-law undergraduates) with the opportunity to research, write and publish an article for Lex Weekly.
Throughout the Scheme, participants researched current legal developments and produced article drafts for review by the editorial team. Writers received feedback and guidance throughout the drafting and editing process, allowing them to develop their legal research, writing, and analytical skills before their articles were finalised and published. Students were also given the opportunity to continue writing as full-time volunteers for Lex Weekly beyond the Scheme.
For the 2024 Winter Writer Scheme, Lex Weekly formally partnered with Cardiff University Law Society, enabling us to offer paid positions to successful applicants. Alongside this, the Scheme provided participants with valuable early‑career experience in legal writing and research, while demonstrating their engagement with commercial law and current legal developments.
