An ambitious and fast-growing private client family law practice in Royal Tunbridge Wells is looking to appoint a Family Solicitor at Associate or Senior Associate level to support continued growth driven by reputation, referrals, and sustained client demand. Built entirely through word-of-mouth, this practice has quickly established a strong local and regional profile, particularly in private children work, domestic abuse matters, and family divorce and finance.
Client enquiries are consistently high, with double-digit new instructions arriving weekly. The current and forward-loaded positive caseload has resulted in this excellent growth opportunity. This role offers a rare opportunity to join a values-led practice at an exciting stage, with real influence over how the team develops and how work is delivered. The environment is supportive, human, and flexible, shaped by lived experience and a genuine understanding of what clients and lawyers need.
The role would suit a lawyer who is confident in their technical ability, calm under pressure, and motivated by doing high-quality work in a practice that prioritises empathy, integrity, and balance. Individuals who enjoy either a mixed practice of finance and children matters, or those who lean more to financial matters, are equally attractive.
The work
- You will manage a varied private family caseload, including a mix of private children matters, and/or divorce and financial remedy work.
- Advisory work alongside mediation, including work linked to local mediator panels.
- Current demand includes several ongoing financial proceedings and a mix of matters resolving through mediation as well as contested litigation, often against large City firms.
- The firm also works closely with local and regional charities and runs regular pro bono clinics, including monthly advice sessions.
- While the practice is not legally aided, it is frequently instructed by charities seeking high-quality private client representation.
Key responsibilities
- Managing private client family matters from instruction through to resolution.
- Building strong, trusted relationships with clients in emotionally complex situations.
- Delivering pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
- Working collaboratively within a small, supportive team.
- Contributing to the continued development of the practice and its reputation.
- Participating in pro bono initiatives and community-facing work.
- Confidence in handling your own caseload.
- Strong client care, communication, and judgement.
- A collaborative and grounded approach.
- Interest in being part of a growing practice rather than a large corporate structure.
Working arrangements and benefits
- Hybrid working - typically two to three days per week in the office (other arrangements may be considered).
- Beautiful, well-located office space in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
- Supportive and transparent culture with excellent career development prospects.
- Salary flexibility depending on experience and specialism.
- Excellent billing-related commission.
