Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced cardiac nurse to join the Cardiology Clinical nurse specialist team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, who manage Nurse – Led Rapid Access Chest Pain and Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) service. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated nurse with extensive experience within cardiology with excellent communication skills and an innovative and flexible approach. A key element of this role will include service development in accordance with NICE guidance and lead Rapid Access Chest Pain clinics and subsequently manage the cardiac patient through the patient pathway, referring onto other specialists as required. The clinics accept GP/A&E referrals for patients with stable chest pain.
Main duties of the job
The expectation of the successful candidate is to work autonomously as a specialist nurse practitioner to provide highly specialist assessment of patients presenting to the Rapid Access Chest Pain and Acute Coronary Syndrome service with stable chest pain to facilitate early diagnosis, investigation, and treatments. In mainly a medically supported clinic setting, to formulate a diagnosis, order, and interpret cardiology investigations and develop a patient management plan in line with local and national guidelines underpinned by evidence-based practice. Work flexibly in the acute trust and collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team. Liaise with your Cardiologist clinical support supervisor in partnership with the chest pain team. You will be required to actively support research, audit, triage, training, and the development of the Chest Pain Service.

Job Responsibilities
The role of Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialist requires a high degree of personal professional autonomy and making clinical judgement. Taking sole and joint responsibility for the patient and procedure during diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure a successful patient based outcome within the acute/community setting, which will require assessment, planning and implementation of treatment. To give advice and guidance both to Consultants and other specialty professionals on interventional procedures and clinical practice. To be responsible for the nursing leadership within the specialty and giving support and guidance within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the high-quality care given to patients, in accordance with clinical governance. The postholder will ensure delivery and expansion of an expert and advanced nurse-led service through effective interdisciplinary care, utilising clinical and managerial expertise, which will include a review of the effectiveness of treatment.
Key Result Areas & Performance
All the following are to be carried out while working in close collaboration with members of the multi-disciplinary team led by a Consultant. To demonstrate clinical expertise within the speciality and work autonomously, managing own allocated clinics independently and seeking guidance/support when necessary. To co-ordinate the specialty care within the Trust/CCG, including outreach clinics within the region. Carries out diagnostic/therapeutic interventions as an independent practitioner, interprets, writes reports and commences further possible treatment on the basis of the findings. Carries out complex therapeutic/investigational procedures under indirect supervision of the Consultant. Ensuring that they are carried out using safe practice and under agreed guidelines/protocols to ensure that the highest possible standard is obtained based on competent clinical practice. To demonstrate the ability to develop new skills, to provide an expert high quality, nurse-led service. To provide ongoing follow-up care and support (telephone support / nurse led clinics / outpatient clinics and outreach clinics).
Experience Essential
- Experience in interpreting ECG reading
- Evidence of working in an acute Cardiology setting for minimal 4 years
Skills Essential
- Up to date ILS/ALS course completion
- Wide-ranging in-depth knowledge of clinical issues in CHD, Acute Coronary Syndromes, angina management and their treatment
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of coronary heart disease and issues relating to the management of the cardiac patient
Management and Leadership Essential
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and Health & Safety issues
- Evidence of autonomous working and management of caseload
General
Develop guidelines, set standards, policies and protocols to ensure the provision of a safe and effective, research/evidence based nurse led service. To initiate and participate in nursing/midwifery and clinical audit, taking action to improve any areas of weakness. #J-18808-Ljbffr
