It’s an exciting time to join us. Lewisham is a fantastic place to live, work and visit – we have ambition, passion and a huge amount of potential. Our people are passionate, engaging and diverse. We have strong communities, and we are proud of how welcoming we are as the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary. It’s also a challenging time for us, with significant financial pressure and increasing demand for our services. We are meeting this challenge head on, with a radical and bold change agenda underway. We want to ensure that our residents and communities can benefit from, and contribute to, London’s future prosperity.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic officer to join the Temporary Accommodation Reduction Project, which sits within the Housing Partnership and Service Improvement Team. As a Tenancy Management and Resettlement Officer, you will report directly to the Temporary Accommodation Reduction Project Manager and will assist in the delivery of change projects and new ways of working.

You will be an officer with experience of assessing applicants to end or discharge the main housing duty, with extensive knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act, Part VII Housing Act, and relevant legislation, guidance, and case law relating to homelessness and temporary accommodation. You will also be experienced with completing affordability and suitability assessments for applicants.

You will have excellent communication skills and substantial experience working within a high-pressure environment. You understand the need to make thorough decisions within tight timescales and be able to effectively manage your workload.

The main focus of your role is to support residents in temporary accommodation to resettle into alternative accommodation, and to complete discharges of duty in specific cases. The successful candidate will be able to make comprehensive assessments and legal decisions that can withstand legal scrutiny and uphold at the review stage or court. You will be experienced in completing s.188 and s.193 discharge of duties.

You will also be required to conduct various ad hoc duties to assist with the delivery of the Temporary Accommodation Reduction Project. This may include supporting the Project Manager by undertaking specific project-related activities, as well as collating and monitoring data, conducting reports, or detailed documents as required.

Contract: This is a fixed-term post for 12 months, with the potential for extension upon review.

Location: While the service is primarily based in Laurence House, we operate a hybrid approach whereby you will be required to work both in the office and from home as determined by service requirements.
