The role is to improve the standard of private sector housing stock in Lewisham by investigating and enforcing housing standards, using statutory powers to address illegal evictions, harassment and non‑compliance with housing law. This temporary position lasts 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Use relevant statutory powers to investigate and take appropriate action in cases of illegal eviction, harassment or non‑compliance with housing law.
  • Enforce breaches and offences under the Renters’ Rights Act and support tenants to understand their rights.
  • Lead investigations and prepare Civil Penalty Notices, witness statements and prosecution bundles.
  • Instruct legal services and attend court and tribunal on the council’s behalf.

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience in investigating and enforcing housing standards and management in the private rented sector.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, investigation techniques, PACE interview requirements, property maintenance and landlord and tenant rights.
  • Ability to provide confidential, trustworthy, customer‑focused services and advice to tenants, landlords and letting agencies.

Salary

£49,155 to £51,228 per annum (PO3). All appointments will be offered at the minimum salary point for the grade, with possible match to current salary up to the maximum of the scale, subject to evidential proof.
