Introduction

Are you a graduating or recently qualified social worker? We are recruiting Newly Qualified Social Workers to launch their careers in our adult mental health teams and we want to hear from applicants who bring energy, integrity, fresh ideas – and a real commitment to empowering Lewisham’s mental health service-users and their carers.

What’s the role?

Lewisham Council works closely with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and voluntary sector partners to provide integrated innovative mental health services for working-age adults. Our mental health social workers play key roles in neighbourhood-based multi-disciplinary teams across the borough. They provide a strong social care voice, working alongside colleagues from the NHS and voluntary sector. Some are based in fast-paced Primary Care Mental Health Teams carrying out rapid assessments and brief interventions, others in Community Mental Health Teams providing longer-term holistic care coordination for people living with serious mental health conditions.

What’s in it for you?

We provide excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:

  • Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme for our NQSWs with protected high-quality supervision, peer support and protection caseloads
  • Opportunities to pursue specialist career pathways including Practice Education, Adult Safeguarding, and AMHP training
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • Flexible working and family-friendly policies
  • Season ticket and bicycle loans
  • A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships
  • Supportive staff networks
  • A managers’ development programme

  • be professionally curious and authentically interested in our community
  • value the importance of communication and honest feedback
  • commit to delivering excellent service
  • adopt an empowering strengths-based approach to their practice
  • work collaboratively within an integrated multi-disciplinary setting
