We currently have a vacancy on our newly expanded Band 5 Rotation. This rotation contains a variety of acute based options and a wide range of posts to encourage development of core OT skills within a supportive environment. You will be working with well-established therapy teams, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in the vibrant and diverse area of Lewisham. Our team will support your transition from student to newly qualified therapist or encourage further development for experienced Band 5s. This role contains all core acute based rotations with a variety of settings.

Main duties of the job:

  • Rotations include: Elderly Rehabilitation, General Medicine (including Oncology), Stroke Unit, Orthopaedics/Surgery.

You will be supported by our Band 6 and Band 7 staff to develop your skills in assessment, treatment and discharge planning of patients with a broad range of medical conditions.

Job responsibilities:

  • To manage a designated caseload using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • Maintain records which fulfil legal requirements.
  • To communicate effectively with patients and carers, OT colleagues, multidisciplinary team members and other agencies.
  • To participate in the multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences, with regard to patient care programmes.
  • To adhere to the COT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and all other relevant policies and procedures.
  • To participate in weekly supervision with a senior occupational therapist.
  • To maintain up to date activity data and activity records in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
  • To participate in the induction and training of other staff and students in this setting.
  • To comply with all Trust Policies and procedures (including Infection Control) the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Data Protection Act.

Person Specification:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Experience of working in the NHS at graduate or undergraduate level.
  • Clinical experience with adult patients in a hospital/physical setting (including prequalification).
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to take responsibility for own caseload.
  • Interest in all rotations on the scheme.
  • Aware of Clinical Governance and its implications on the OT role.
