D365 Engineer

Full-Time No working from home possible
Lewis Silkin LLP

This job is with Lewis Silkin LLP, an inclusive employer and a member of myGwork – the largest global platform for the LGBTQ+ business community. Please do not contact the recruiter directly.

About the Team:

The Applications team at Lewis Silkin is made up of Product, Data & Architecture and Finance Transformation. The D365 Engineer will play a key role in shaping how we get the best from our Microsoft investment across all three areas, although initially they will be working most closely with the Business Applications team within the Product area.

The Microsoft Platform function is a new and growing area within Applications and will report to the Director of Applications. This is an exciting time within the team as we build out proper ownership of our Microsoft estate; an excellent opportunity for someone to come in, shape and influence how the platform is run, governed and evolved at Lewis Silkin.

About the Role:

The D365 Engineer is the technical authority on how we design, build and run on the Microsoft stack. You will own the D365 platform end-to-end; setting the architectural direction, embedding best practice, and making sure the people building on top of it (in the Business Applications team and across the wider Applications function) have the guidance, guardrails and unblocking they need to do their best work.

Our D365 estate underpins a growing range of client-facing products, as well as the systems we use to run the firm. The D365 Engineer will initially focus on our D365 Customer Service and Customer Relationship Management capabilities, with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Copilot Studio) as an important part of the wider toolkit.

You will also be our route into the Microsoft ecosystem; managing the relationship with our D365 delivery partner and with Microsoft, directly and helping the Service Desk resolve D365 issues quickly and confidently.

Key Responsibilities

Own the platform

  • Act as the technical owner and design authority for the D365 platform; with a primary focus on Customer Service and CRM.
  • Define and evolve the target architecture for D365 and the wider Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Copilot Studio) at Lewis Silkin.
  • Define and administer the environment lifecycle from stand up to retirement.
  • Having recently finished a technical debt/ALM project this role will continue the work of enabling best practice across environments, security, integration patterns, data model, and Application Lifecycle Management.
  • Own the platform roadmap; version upgrades, capacity management, release management, licensing posture and technical debt.

Enable the developers

  • Service the D365 developers in the Business Applications team and the wider Dev Squad; unblocking them, reviewing designs, and pairing on complex problems.
  • Provide architectural input into new stories and change requests coming through the Delivery Analyst, so that what gets built fits the platform and scales.
  • Champion Power Platform where it is the right tool for the job; guiding safe, governed use of Power Apps, Power Automate and Copilot Studio alongside D365.
  • Coach the wider Applications team on Microsoft platform capability; growing the collective expertise.

Manage the Microsoft relationship

  • Own the day-to-day relationship with our D365 delivery partner; setting expectations, quality-checking their work, and making sure we get value from the engagement.
  • Act as our route into Microsoft; brokering conversations with Microsoft account teams, FastTrack, and specialist Microsoft partners as needed.
  • Keep an eye on the Microsoft roadmap and translate what is relevant for Lewis Silkin into practical recommendations.

Support the Firm

  • Support the Service Desk on D365; helping to triage, diagnose and resolve issues, and building up the knowledge base so common issues are handled at first line.
  • Act as a connection point between the developers, the Service Desk and business users; making sure technical decisions are communicated in language people understand.
  • Contribute to release readiness and hyper care on D365 changes, in partnership with the Delivery Analyst and the Portfolio Lead.
  • Continuously feed learnings from incidents and support back into architecture and best practice.

About You:

You will be a curious, pragmatic and collaborative technologist who enjoys shaping the way things get done as much as building the things themselves. You will be as comfortable in a design discussion with developers, as you are explaining a technical trade-off to a partner in the business, and take real pride in leaving a platform in a better state than you found it. You care about the people who rely on the systems you architect, and you are happy to roll your sleeves up alongside a Developer or a Service Desk analyst when that is what the job needs.

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • At least 2 years’ hands-on experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365; with a focus on Customer Service and/or CRM (Customer Engagement).
  • Working knowledge of the wider Power Platform; Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, and ideally Copilot Studio.
  • A solid understanding of D365 architecture, data model, security model, integration patterns and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
  • Experience working alongside developers; reviewing designs, unblocking issues and setting technical direction.
  • Comfort managing or working closely with a Microsoft delivery partner; setting expectations, reviewing quality and getting good outcomes.
  • Good instincts around governance, licensing and security in the Microsoft ecosystem.
  • Strong communication skills; able to translate between technical detail and business impact, and to explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset;
  • Microsoft certifications such as PL-600 (Power Platform Solution Architect), MB-230 (D365 Customer Service), MB-210 (D365 Sales), or the Dynamics 365 + Power Platform Solution Architect Expert credential (ideal, but not essential).
  • Experience supporting a Service Desk or second-line function on a Microsoft platform (ideal, but not essential).
  • Exposure to Azure integration services, Microsoft Fabric, Foundry or Copilot (ideal, but not essential).
  • Experience in the legal sector or another professional services environment (ideal, but not essential).
  • Experience and knowledge of Customer Insights is a nice to have.
