We are working with a highly regarded Thames Valley law firm to recruit an Agricultural & Rural Property Solicitor to join its expanding and well-established Agricultural and Rural Land team.

Following a period of sustained growth, including the recent appointment of a leading specialist and the addition of a senior paralegal progressing towards qualification, our client is now looking to further strengthen the team with the hire of a solicitor ideally between 2–6 years’ PQE.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor looking to deepen their expertise in rural and agricultural property matters while benefiting from high-quality work, strong partner support, and a genuinely collegiate environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with experienced partners and senior lawyers on a broad range of rural property matters, while also running their own caseload. The work is varied and intellectually engaging, covering both traditional agricultural property transactions and more specialist, strategic land projects.

The firm is long-established in advising the rural and agricultural community across the Thames Valley and beyond, and is widely recognised for the breadth and depth of its expertise in this sector.

Key Responsibilities

Work will include advising on:

  • Sales and acquisitions of agricultural land and rural property
  • Farm disposals, acquisitions and restructuring
  • Farm-related tenancies, including succession rights and surrenders
  • Rural commercial arrangements, including wayleaves and easements
  • Overage and development provisions
  • Renewable energy projects and infrastructure schemes
  • Farm business diversification projects, including residential development, biodiversity net gain, forestry, carbon offsetting and agri-environment schemes
  • Supporting wider real estate and cross-departmental matters where appropriate

Clients include farmers, landowners, estates, investors, universities and colleges, offering exposure to a diverse and high-quality client base.

The Agricultural and Rural Land team works closely with specialists across wills and estates, trusts, litigation, family, corporate, partnership and employment law, enabling truly joined-up advice.

The team is known for its pragmatic, commercially focused approach, strong attention to detail, and clear, approachable advice on complex transactions. You will receive excellent supervision and training, with genuine scope to build your profile in this specialist and rewarding area of law. Business development is encouraged and supported at all levels.

About You

Qualified solicitor with ideally 2–6 years’ PQE (or equivalent experience)

  • Demonstrable interest in agricultural and rural property work
  • Strong technical ability combined with a practical, client-focused approach
  • Comfortable working collaboratively while managing your own matters
  • Enthusiastic about long-term career development within a specialist team

This role is based in the firm’s Reading office, with a hybrid working arrangement of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

Inclusivity & Flexibility

PQE levels are indicative only and applications are welcomed from candidates with equivalent quality experience. Flexible and part-time working arrangements can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. Reasonable adjustments are fully supported throughout the recruitment process.
