Our client seeks a Principal Energy Consultant with expertise in managing and delivering energy and net-zero projects. This role involves overseeing a portfolio of initiatives, such as Local Area Energy Plans, Net Zero Action Plans, Heat Network Studies, and net-zero research. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in project delivery, providing technical insights and strategic advice to clients while fostering trusted, consultative relationships. The role also includes driving business growth through identifying opportunities, preparing high-quality tender responses, and representing the organization at industry events and conferences focused on energy and decarbonization. Key Responsibilities Management Lead the development of a sub-sector within the energy offering. Manage energy projects to meet high-quality standards, deadlines, and budgets. Ensure client satisfaction through proactive engagement. Mentor and develop team members specializing in energy planning and pipeline development. Provide technical oversight, advisory, and analysis on energy projects, including energy modeling. Support business planning processes with strategic energy inputs. Technical Expertise Conduct technical research to optimize energy planning and modeling processes. Deliver strategic, data-driven advice, including GIS analysis. Oversee development of detailed energy models using tools such as Excel, Python, and SQL. Provide expert advice in energy systems, building physics, and sustainability. Business Development Produce high-quality client reports and technical/financial proposals. Lead business development activities, including client outreach and networking. Clearly and effectively communicate technical information to clients and stakeholders. Present capabilities and solutions to senior officers and portfolio holders in the energy sector. Candidate Profile You are ambitious, proactive, and client-focused with strong technical expertise in energy systems, planning, and modeling. A collaborative and disciplined professional, you excel in delivering high-quality outcomes and adapting to dynamic challenges. Essential Requirements 5+ years of consultancy experience. Proven technical knowledge of energy systems, renewable energy, and building physics. Advanced skills in Excel, Python, and GIS. Demonstrable client relationship management experience. Bachelor’s degree (1st class) in a technical or scientific field. Desirable Skills Experience in decarbonization strategies, district heat networks, or Local Area Energy Planning. Familiarity with hydrogen systems and customer workshop design. Experience in high-growth or technology start-up environments.
