An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a busy, friendly, and professional team within the Green Consultancy department of Lewes and Eastbourne Council. We are looking to recruit an experienced green space officer to help deliver contract and project management across both Lewes and Eastbourne Councils.
You will assist in the management of our grounds maintenance contracts, deliver high profile projects and deal with reactionary works and issues as they arise. You will manage, on a day-to-day basis, the workload of external consultants employed to carry out specialist functions within given projects, liaise and build relationships with colleagues, suppliers, members and the public to ensure that projects are delivered that meet the community needs and offer best value for money. You will manage budgets associated with specific projects and produce detailed financial reports for internal and external partners, identify potential grant funding sources for related projects and complete funding application forms.
With experience in parks management, you will ensure our grounds maintenance contracts are being delivered as per the specifications, assist in monitoring and reporting, and the specification of new contracts. You will be required to have obtained a qualification in horticulture, or other relevant field, and hold solid experience with parks, playgrounds and green space management.
Requirements
- A relevant post A-Level qualification and/or three years’ experience in a similar role in contract management, project management, or a related subject
- Grounds maintenance and project management experience
- Good understanding & demonstrable experience in working with landowners and/or other stakeholders towards joint outcomes.
- A working knowledge of current and evolving policy and legislation
- Knowledge and ability to apply for funding/grants.
- Coordination skills – the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience working within the community and supporting volunteers.
- Good written and verbal communication
- Enthusiasm for parks, open spaces and the environment
- An organised approach to work, flexibility as weekend and evening hours may be required
- A high level of motivation
- Being flexible, reactive; and able and willing to travel quickly between sites to deal with issues
- A full driving licence and access to your own transport
The authority has moved to home working and whilst the role is based from home, most of your day will be spent on site.
