Strategy Director - The Role

The Strategy Director will lead the growth and capital investment agenda for the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), with a clear mandate: to conceive and shape the ideas, propositions and capex projects that establish SEC as a clear destination venue in Scotland across its Conference & Events (C&E) and Retail operations.

This is a conceptual and business-development role rather than an operational one.

You will originate the bigger-picture growth ideas, translate them into robust, investable business cases, and work alongside key stakeholders - both within Levy and with the client - to take those concepts from vision through to funded, deliverable projects.

You will report into and work closely with the Venue Director, who holds overall accountability for the venue and sponsors your agenda at senior level.

You will be high-profile within the growth and development community around SEC, working collaboratively with Levy UK & I's central teams, the client's development and planning functions, and external partners to deliver ambitious, long-term change.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Growth Strategy & Destination Vision
  • Develop and own the long-term growth strategy and destination-venue vision for SEC in Scotland, spanning Conference & Events and Retail.
  • Lead the conceptual creation of new experiences, spaces, propositions and offerings that differentiate SEC as a must-visit destination.
  • Identify and evaluate new revenue streams, partnerships and experiential retail concepts that support the destination-venue ambition.
  • Translate market trends, customer insight and competitor activity across the Scottish and UK events landscape into forward-looking strategic concepts.
  • Capital Investment & Business Case Development
  • Lead the development of capex business cases for growth and transformation projects, including feasibility studies, financial modelling and ROI analysis.
  • Work with Levy's design and build teams (including BUILT) and external architects and contractors to progress concepts from idea through to investment-ready proposals.
  • Present strategic recommendations and capital investment business cases to the executive team and board, supported by data-driven insight.
  • Track delivery of approved capex and growth projects against plan, adjusting the pipeline as opportunities and constraints evolve.
  • Stakeholder & Partnership Development for Growth
  • Work alongside key project stakeholders within Levy (e. g.

Business Transformation, Design & Build, Commercial teams) and the client's development and planning functions to progress specific growth and capital initiatives.

  • Build relationships with external partners relevant to SEC's growth agenda - architects, contractors, sponsors, local authorities, planning bodies and Scottish tourism and events organisations.
  • Represent SEC's growth and destination agenda at relevant industry forums and partner meetings focused on venue and destination development.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration on live growth initiatives, ensuring shared ownership between Levy and client project teams.
  • Strategy Team Leadership
  • Build and lead a high-performing strategy team focused on conceptual design, feasibility and business case development.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, rigour and accountability within the strategy function.
  • Mentor emerging talent within the strategy team, supporting their development and growth.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience

  • Significant senior-level experience in strategic leadership, venue development or capital project roles within events, hospitality, retail or venue operations.
  • Proven track record of originating and delivering capex or transformation projects from concept through to investment approval.
  • Experience developing and presenting business cases, financial models and ROI analyses to executive or board audiences.
  • Experience working with design, build and external development partners (architects, contractors, planning bodies) to deliver physical or experiential change.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes
  • Strong conceptual and strategic thinking, with the ability to originate bold ideas and translate them into deliverable, fundable plans.
  • Commercial acumen with real depth in business case development, financial modelling and investment appraisal.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at board and senior client level.
  • Deep understanding of destination-venue positioning, customer experience and experiential retail/events trends.
  • Skilled in project-focused stakeholder engagement, negotiation and partnership development with both Levy and client teams.
  • Visionary and results-driven, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-profile environment with competing priorities.
