Purpose of the Role
As part of the Levy team at Aston Villa Football Club, the Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator plays a crucial role in driving our culture of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence. You will provide expert guidance and hands-on support to operational teams, ensuring that all matchday and non-matchday activity is delivered in line with Levy standards, industry legislation, and client expectations.
You Will
- Deliver competent and proactive HSE advice, ensuring our teams understand and fulfil their responsibilities.
- Support matchday and event operations, including auditing Chef/Manager Packs and ensuring compliance across all food and beverage areas.
- Carry out event-day audits for third-party partners such as Peppermint or Kerb.
- Undertake daily and weekly stadium audits, identifying potential hazards and working with Heads of Department (HODs) to implement corrective actions.
- Lead the unit\’s Net Zero Toolkit activity and champion sustainability initiatives in line with Levy\’s Net Zero objectives.

Operational Standards
- Provide clear, competent HSE guidance to managers and operational teams, seeking specialist advice from the Levy HSE network when required.
- Follow the site HSE weekly planner as directed by the General Manager, ensuring attendance at scheduled meetings and completion of all daily checklists.
- Communicate key HSE messages to frontline teams to promote full compliance and consistent standards.
- Support HODs with incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are completed promptly and collaboratively, utilising legal and HR support when needed.
- Assist with regular audits and compliance checks against Compass and Levy policies, procedures, and operational frameworks.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with HSE regulators during enforcement, inspections, or dispute processes.
- Attend monthly client waste-management meetings to support sustainability commitments.
- Build strong relationships with the Client HSE team through regular meetings and updates.
Measuring Team Performance
- Conduct monthly incident trend analysis to identify risks and implement proactive improvement initiatives.
- Review internal audit results, share best practice, and track closure of any NCRs.
- Hold regular catch-ups with HODs and attend the weekly leadership meeting to support continuous improvement.
- Carry out regular safety walks across the stadium and support the senior management team in departmental safety reviews.
People Management
- Ensure all new starters complete an HSE induction and that all role-specific training and risk assessments are up to date.
- Coordinate with external partners, clients, and contractors to ensure consistent and safe working practices across all Levy-operated areas.
- Maintain and update HSE noticeboards across all sites within the Aston Villa operation.

Person Specification
- Experience in an HSE role or two years\’ supervisory/team leader experience
- Working knowledge of HSE processes, standards, and legislation
- Strong IT skills, especially Microsoft Office
- Enthusiastic and motivational, with a commitment to exceptional standards
- A confident communicator who can influence and engage teams at all levels
- Honest, transparent, consistent, and able to earn trust and respect across the business
