We are supporting a major UK retailer undergoing a significant infrastructure transformation programme and are seeking a Senior VMware Infrastructure Architect to lead the design and implementation of a critical VMware transformation workstream. This is a hands-on architecture role requiring an individual who can take ownership of technical design whilst remaining actively involved in implementation, migration and delivery activities across a large-scale enterprise environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for leading the design, implementation and migration of core infrastructure platforms, working closely with internal teams and existing consultancy partners to deliver the future-state environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- VMware vSphere / ESXi architecture, design and implementation
- Infrastructure transformation and modernisation initiatives
- Lift-and-shift migration programmes
- Virtual platform upgrades, optimisation and migration
- Physical server infrastructure integration
- Network infrastructure and switching considerations
- Infrastructure rationalisation and consolidation activities
- Technical leadership across design, implementation and delivery
- Supporting the transition to new infrastructure and operating models
- Ensuring platform stability throughout migration and transformation activities
What We're Looking for:
We are looking for a senior infrastructure professional with a proven track record of delivering large-scale VMware transformation programmes.
Required experience:
- VMware vSphere and ESXi expertise
- Enterprise infrastructure architecture and design
- Hands-on implementation and delivery experience
- VMware platform migrations and upgrades
- Datacentre transformation and infrastructure modernisation
- Physical server infrastructure knowledge
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking and switching
- Experience owning solutions from design through to implementation
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Desirable experience:
- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
- NSX / NSX-T
- Aria / vRealize Suite
- Hybrid cloud environments (Azure and/or AWS)
- Managed service transition programmes
- Large-scale infrastructure migration projects
