Trade Finance Officer (Letters of Credit)

We’re seeking a Trade Finance Officer (LC) to join the Trade Finance Operations team of a financial services client. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast‑paced international banking environment, supporting global trade transactions and ensuring compliance with international standards.
As a Trade Finance Officer, you will be responsible for the issuance, advising, examination, discounting, and settlement of documentary Letters of Credit (LCs). You will ensure all transactions are compliant with ICC rules (UCP 600, ISBP), Incoterms, and internal policies, while mitigating operational and financial risks.
Your role will involve reviewing customer applications, identifying discrepancies and potential fraud, and liaising with customers, counterparties, and internal teams to ensure smooth and timely processing of trade transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and validate customer LC applications in line with ICC UCP, ISBP, and internal policies.
- Examine trade documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Identify and escalate discrepancies or potential financial crime risks.
- Ensure adherence to AML, KYC, and sanctions screening requirements.
- Liaise with customers, issuing/advising banks, and other stakeholders to resolve LC‑related issues.
- Prepare and submit reports on document checking activities and discrepancies.
- Stay updated on trade finance regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices.
- Support the team to achieve service level targets and departmental objectives.
- Strong knowledge of UCP 600, ISBP, and international trade practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- High attention to detail with strong organisational abilities.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Team‑oriented, adaptable, and proactive approach to work.
- Strong awareness of trade‑based money laundering (TBML) risks and red‑flag indicators.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Trade Finance Operations, with a focus on Letters of Credit.
- Experience in financial services, preferably within an international bank.
- Degree in Finance, International Business, or equivalent experience.
- CDCS qualification preferred, or willingness to obtain within 12 months.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with sanctions/PEP screening tools and trade finance systems.
