An international bank with a strong presence across the UK and Middle East is seeking an experienced Head of Compliance & MLRO to lead its Compliance and Financial Crime function.

This is a senior leadership position offering responsibility for the bank's regulatory compliance framework, financial crime controls and data protection governance, while working closely with the CEO, Board and Risk Committee.

This role is suited to an experienced compliance professional with a strong background in UK banking regulation, AML and financial crime who is looking to take ownership of a broad and influential remit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the bank's Compliance and Financial Crime framework.
  • Act as the approved SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and SMF17 (MLRO).
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with FCA, PRA and wider UK regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the bank's AML/CTF framework, including CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, sanctions, PEP screening and SAR reporting.
  • Develop and manage the Compliance Monitoring Programme.
  • Advise senior management on regulatory developments and emerging compliance risks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the FCA, PRA, NCA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Present regular Compliance, Financial Crime and MLRO reports to the Board and Risk Committee.
  • Lead the bank's Data Protection framework, acting as Data Protection Officer (DPO).
  • Promote a strong culture of compliance across the organisation through training and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead and develop the Compliance team.

Requirements

  • Extensive Compliance and Financial Crime experience within a UK banking environment.
  • Previous experience operating at Head of Compliance, Deputy Head of Compliance or equivalent senior level.
  • Strong knowledge of FCA, PRA, AML/CTF, SMCR and UK regulatory requirements.
  • Experience engaging directly with regulators and managing regulatory inspections.
  • Proven experience presenting to Executive Committees and Boards.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Eligible to perform, or capable of obtaining approval for, SMF16 and SMF17 responsibilities.
  • Private Banking, Correspondent Banking or Trade Finance.
  • Data Protection certification (CIPP/E, CIPM or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of Operational Resilience and emerging regulatory developments.
