We are supporting a bank seeking a Relationship & Branch Manager to lead its Birmingham branch, with responsibility for driving profitable growth across SME and commercial clients. This role combines client relationship management, business development and branch leadership, with a strong focus on growing both assets and liabilities, while maintaining a high-quality, well-managed portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for both managing an existing portfolio and generating new business, while leading and developing a team within the branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of commercial / SME clients, delivering value-added banking solutions
  • Drive profitable volume growth through new client acquisition and development of existing relationships
  • Ensure the branch achieves targets across asset growth, deposit growth, account volumes and remittance activity
  • Structure, prepare and present credit proposals to internal credit committees
  • Negotiate client facilities across lending and deposit products
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying early warning signs and managing risk proactively
  • Lead, coach and develop branch staff, ensuring strong performance against KPIs
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, intermediaries and local business networks
  • Drive referrals across Trade Finance, FX and other banking products
  • Ensure all activity is conducted in line with regulatory requirements, policies and procedures

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience within UK SME / commercial banking
  • Strong track record of business development and portfolio growth
  • Experienced in preparing and presenting credit proposals
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow client relationships
  • Experience leading or mentoring teams within a banking environment
  • Strong understanding of UK banking regulations, AML and TCF requirements
  • Highly commercial, with the ability to drive branch performance and exceed targets
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Experience Required

  • Significant experience within UK banking
  • Proven experience in running or contributing to sales teams
  • Practical experience as a lender with knowledge of UK products and credit processes
  • Track record of delivering against both individual and team KPIs
  • Ability to influence and build strong relationships
  • Strong leadership and team development capability
  • Commercial mindset with a focus on growth and performance
  • Clear and effective communication style
  • Ability to identify opportunities and solve problems proactively
