The predicted salary is between 72000 - 108000 £ per year.

The role is to lead the EMEA IPV function covering Europe and Asia businesses, providing strategic direction to the team and ensuring the thorough application of valuation controls to the Europe and Asia based trading businesses. The team consists of five people based on London and one working offshore for an outsourced provider. The role covers all the International businesses and will include involvement in all the main asset classes except for commodities.

The IPV team is responsible for all aspects of IPV policy and ensuring it is up to date with the latest regulatory and accounting guidance. The role will involve working closely with the regulatory and accounting policy teams on any regulatory returns requiring IPV input and also liaising with global IPV team to ensure global consistency of both IPV policy and process implantation.

The IPV team has a key role in the maintenance of controls around the firm’s model inventory and the role will include involvement in the model review and approval process.

As the business expands in many areas, the role will also include involvement in assessing the valuation impacts of new business initiatives which can be new products, businesses and regions.

There will also be an element of project work as we seek to improve and automate processes and on-board new businesses.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Leading the team and setting strategic direction
  • Collaboration with Global Head and US heads on key strategic initiatives and valuation matters.
  • Chairing monthly IPV Committee reporting results to CFO, CEO, CRO and Audit
  • 2025 JDS automation projection, focusing initially on cash IPV processes
  • Managing and pushing forward the book of improvement and project work, assigning tasks, priorities and timeframes in order to efficiently manage the group’s process improvement and automation work
  • Oversight of the performance of the IPV process and discussion of results with the trading desks for a variety of businesses and asset classes including Equity cash and derivatives, interest rate derivatives, sovereign and corporate bonds, loans and mortgage-backed securities. Generally, twice monthly but in some cases more frequently.
  • Acting as an escalation point for material valuation issues and providing support and expert guidance to the team on subjective valuation decisions.
  • Oversight and review of reporting of IPV testing results for senior management.
  • Working with pricing and market data providers to challenge pricing, perform deep dives into harder to price securities and investigate new sources of market data.
  • Intra month investigation and follow up for material variances or less liquid securities.
  • Assigning FAS157 levels to financial inventory and performing level 3 forecasting exercises.
  • Involvement in new system roll outs, providing expert guidance and coordinating team testing.
  • Participation in Regulatory returns requiring IPV input.
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors.
  • Advising the New Business Committee regarding valuation matters for new business proposals.
  • Oversight of calculation of valuation adjustments, e.g. bid/offer.
  • Reviewing new pricing models and understanding the impact on the valuation and IPV process.
  • Representing the IPV group at the Global Model Validation Committee

Qualifications/ Experience

The following skills and experience are required for this role:

  • Proven track record of strong leadership and effective management, with the ability to develop and motivate high-performing teams
  • Experience of running an independent valuation function at a large Investment Bank
  • Detailed knowledge of financial products, both Fixed Income and Equities
  • Experience in senior stakeholder management, communication and driving consensus.
  • Effective problem solver with practical and analytical approach
  • Good communication, numeracy skills and a strong academic background
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good team player
  • Strong sense of ownership and a willingness to take responsibility for tasks assigned and a hands on approach
  • Ability to multitask and be adaptable to tight deadlines with a good attention to detail.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic and motivated work style
