About Level Zero

Level Zero is pioneering next‑generation biosensor technology for precise, real‑time monitoring of critical endocrine biomarkers. Recognised as one of the top 20 startups across all categories worldwide at TechCrunch Disrupt 2024 - and backed by top‑tier organisations like Redalpine, SOSV, and Entrepreneur First - we’re pushing the boundaries of biochemistry and nanotechnology to revolutionize personalised health.

Founded by two seasoned engineers, we bring extensive experience in R&D, technical innovation, and commercial strategy to transform the way people monitor their health. Our mission is bold: to revolutionise health management by delivering clinical‑grade data directly to individuals, wherever they are.

We’re seeking driven innovators to join us in pushing the boundaries of biosensing and health tech, making personalised health monitoring a reality for everyone. To achieve this ambitious vision, we’re assembling the best team in the world - dedicated to turning cutting‑edge science into life‑changing, real‑world solutions.

About This Role

We’re looking for a Research Scientist (Immunoassay) to help build and scale assay development at Level Zero Health, accelerating our mission to deliver clinical‑grade, real‑time biomarker monitoring through next‑generation biosensing. Working within the assay development team and alongside a project lead, you’ll help develop and optimise lateral flow assay formulations and manufacturing procedures, design and run experiments to test hypotheses and solve technical problems, and turn raw assay data into clear conclusions that drive iteration.

What You’ll Do

  • Work within the assay development team under guidance of a project leader to help discover new formulations and procedures for LZH lateral flow assays
  • Further optimise existing formulations and improve manufacturing efficiency of assay reagent manufacturing by testing the effect of certain changes to procedures which you will identify and suggest independently or from discussion with your supervising project leader
  • Guide the work of Research Assistants in our team when experiments you are responsible for require support
  • Use technical knowledge of immunoassays to make suggestions of hypotheses to test in the aforementioned areas and solve technical problems
  • Maintain electronic laboratory notebook to the required company standard, diligently recording data and observations from experiments you perform
  • Communicate all work (progress, findings, observations, suggestions) your project leader and on occasion to the wider company in collaborative meetings
  • Help develop the technical skills of Research Assistants in the team when you work together to complete technical work and analysis together

What You Bring

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Relevant Scientific degree and extensive experience developing (not just performing) ELISA, LFA or other immunoassay technique. e.g. developing these techniques was the focus of a PhD (rather than a technique used only on occasion) or previous work at a CRO, hospital or immunoassay development company as RA or Scientist. Basic experience performing immunoassays in a Life Sciences Bachelors or Masters degree is not considered sufficient experience
  • Awareness of product development, good laboratory practice and safe working in an industrial laboratory
  • Be comfortable working with human samples such as blood
  • Ability to take a research question and design experiments to answer it in a timely manner, sometimes independently, accounting for any assistance needed, services, materials and equipment required
  • Ability to format and analyse raw assay response data (derive concentration from calibration curve) and make definitive conclusions which can be documented for the company’s Design History
  • Ability to perform statistical tests to conclude if observations are significant or not
  • Have some awareness of the context of your deliverables within the broader assay team development plan and keep managers updated on project progress and blockers
  • Ability to integrate quickly into a new team and work well with others, as the role will be collaborative

Nice to have

  • Recent experience working under ISO13485 or ISO9001 and GLP in an industrial laboratory, developing immunoassays
