About The Role
We are excited to welcome a aptamer scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in SELEX, aptamer library design, and binding analysis using techniques like SPR and BLI. Proficiency in bio-conjugation reactions, nucleic acid structure characterization. Strong data analysis skills with tools like Python or R are required. Experience with electrochemical aptamer-based biosensors is a plus. The candidate will work closely with the nano-biosensor team to advance R&D milestones.
This is a full-time, in-person role primarily based in London.
Some examples of what you might do:
- Design Library for aptamer selection against various small molecule or proteins
- Wet lab experiments to perform selections, identification and binding analysis of candidates using fluorescence, electrochemical based method, or biophysical techniques such as Surface plasmon / Biolayer interferometry
- Perform various bio-conjugation reactions and purifications of oligonucleotides
Analyse and organise raw experimental data as technical reports.
- Work closely with the Nano biosensor team leader for work progress towards R&D milestones
- Attend R&D-related trainings and seminars for continuous updates on the latest trend in small molecule sensing technologies
What You Bring
- A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Nucleic Acid Chemistry, or a related field. Postdoctoral experience (university or industrial) will be a plus for this position
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in the following areas:
- Proficient in Capture-SELEX, including library and primer design, optimisation of regeneration of libraries
- Skilled in molecular biology techniques, including RT-PCR, cloning, in vitro transcription, and various gel electrophoresis (denaturing, native PAGE and agarose)
- In-depth knowledge of fluorescence-based assays, such as fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) and other fluorescence detection methods. Experience with standard gel scanning instruments such TYPHOON or Geldoc etc
- Experience with Nucleic Acid secondary structure characterisation by biophysical and biochemical techniques such as CD Spectroscopy, DMS Footprint, SHAPE assays
- Extensive experience with high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics workflows for aptamer characterisation
- Well-versed in DNA/RNA folding, secondary structure prediction, and basic computational analysis tools
- Experience with display-based selection methods, such as bead-based, droplet-based, or cell-based platforms for aptamer screening
- Hands on experience of basic conjugation chemistries like NHS coupling, Click chemistry and solid phase oligo synthesis
Nice to have:
- Experience with Electrochemical/optical Aptamer based biosensor development
- Operating ability and basic analytical knowledge of standard instrument such as HPLC, FPLC, and LC-MS
