We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Legal Cashier to join the Finance team at Sort Group. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in legal finance. Working closely with the Group Management Accountant and wider Finance leadership team, you’ll support the delivery of accounting services across the Group while gaining hands-on experience in a busy, high-volume environment. This is a trainee position with clear progression, offering the opportunity to work towards becoming a fully qualified Legal Cashier through AAT and/or ILFM qualifications.
What you’ll be doing:
- Processing daily client and office account postings accurately and efficiently
- Maintaining and updating the purchase ledger, including logging and posting invoices
- Assisting with bank reconciliations and identifying incoming funds
- Keying payments on banking systems relating to client transactions
- Supporting conveyancers with financial queries relating to client matter ledgers
- Posting weekly sales invoices and introducer payments
- Processing disbursement invoices (e.g. Land Registry)
- Banking cheques and cash as required
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Ensuring all financial postings comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements
- Supporting the wider Finance team with ad hoc duties as required
- Contributing to risk management by identifying and questioning unusual transactions
What we’re looking for:
- Strong numeracy skills and excellent attention to detail
- Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
- A basic understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and financial processes
- Awareness of AML regulations and legal accounting frameworks (beneficial but not essential)
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume transactional environment
- A curious and proactive mindset with a willingness to learn
- Flexibility and a positive approach to work
- Commitment to studying towards AAT and/or ILFM qualifications
Where you’ll be:
This role can be based in any of our offices in Derby, South Shields, or Gosforth, working as part of a collaborative and supportive Finance team within a growing group of legal, financial, and property businesses.
Salary: £25,000
