At Leonardo Helicopters, we have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and knowledgeable Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to support our manufacturing and operational teams in maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance. Based full time on-site, you will play a key role in driving a positive safety culture across the site, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, company policies and recognised industry best practice. Working closely with operational managers and employees, you will provide practical HSE support, helping to identify risks, implement effective control measures and promote continuous improvement in all aspects of health, safety and environmental management.
The successful candidate will support the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of our integrated Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems, ensuring alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards. Through auditing, monitoring, risk assessment, incident investigation and performance reporting, you will help ensure a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace while contributing to operational excellence.

What you will do as a HSE Advisor:
- Provide professional HSE advice and support to managers, supervisors and employees across the business including, manufacturing, engineering and support functions.
- Support the effective implementation and maintenance of the ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, safe systems of work (SSOW) and tool box talks (TBT) for all work activities across the LHUK estate.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and compliance monitoring activities to verify adherence to company standards and legal requirements.
- Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor compliance with relevant UK legislation and company procedures relating to health, safety and environmental management.
- Support compliance activities associated with machinery safety, PUWER, LOLER, working at height, contractor management, permit-to-work systems and workplace transport.
- Assist in environmental compliance activities including waste management, spill prevention, pollution control and environmental reporting.
- Participate in internal and external audits and support regulatory inspections.
- Maintain HSE records, documentation, KPI data and performance reports.
- Deliver or support HSE training, toolbox talks and awareness campaigns.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support the delivery of HSE improvement plans and objectives.
- Promote positive behaviours and actively support the development of a strong safety culture throughout the business.
- Support emergency preparedness arrangements, drills and response activities as required.
What you’ll bring
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent recognised Health and Safety qualification.
- Demonstrable 2 years’ experience within a manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, defence, or other high-risk operational environment.
- Sound knowledge of UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and its practical application within a manufacturing setting.
- Working knowledge of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, compliance audits, behavioural observations and incident investigations.
- Competent in developing and reviewing risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
- Understanding of key manufacturing safety requirements including machinery safety, PUWER, LOLER, working at height, contractor management, permit-to-work systems and workplace transport risks.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to challenge unsafe behaviours and practices in a constructive and professional manner.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated, proactive and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to build positive working relationships and contribute to a strong HSE culture across the business.
Desirable knowledge and skills:
- Technical Member of IOSH (Tech IOSH) with a commitment to progressing towards Graduate IOSH (Grad IOSH) status.
- Working towards, or willing to undertake, further professional development leading to Chartered IOSH membership.
- Experience auditing against ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems.
- Knowledge of occupational health risks including noise, vibration, hazardous substances and health surveillance.
- Experience within aerospace, defence, manufacturing or other highly regulated industries.

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
