Opportunity

We are looking for talented, motivated Digital Engineers at every level to join our growing hardware engineering team within Leonardo, based in any of our 8 offices. As a Digital Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development, manufacture and testing of cutting-edge radio frequency systems within a range of product lines. With a focus on ensuring optimal performance and functionality, you will contribute to the advancement of our defence technology. The ideal candidates will have an understanding of digital design, microwave techniques and electromagnetic theory. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for success in these roles.

What you’ll do as a Digital Electronics Engineer:

  • Designing high speed digital PCBs that utilise the latest FPGA, microprocessor and high-speed interconnect technologies.
  • Supporting throughout the full hardware lifecycle from requirements analysis; through design, and unit test; to integrating hardware with the target system; and lastly to acceptance test and delivery to customer.
  • Fully documenting and recording your work products; keeping them under configuration management, and providing plans and progress reports.
  • Work closely with Systems, Mechanical and Software Engineers to develop sub-system digital electronic architectures which extend our product range, capability and performance with minimal Size, Weight and Power (SWaP).
  • Develop new electronics through the full design lifecycle; from early concepting, technology maturation and prototyping; through to main product design, build test and to system integration; and lastly to acceptance test and delivery to the customer.

What we need from you:

Qualifications:

  • First or second degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD, EngD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (preferable) or related science (e.g. Physics).
  • Experience with analysing system level requirements documents and understanding their application to Hardware designs.
  • The ability to break down and solve complex technical challenges, including the ability to visualise both the wider system context alongside the detailed digital architecture.
  • Experience in developing novel digital electronics, including digital / DSP, firmware, and mixed-signal.
  • Experience with schematic capture.

It would be great if you have:

  • Experience developing FPGA / firmware as well as hardware, as this would be extremely beneficial.
  • Design of high-speed serial communication links and knowledge of associated protocols and architectures.
