Leonardo UK is offering an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, forward-thinking team at our state-of-the-art Leonardo Academy in Lincoln. As a Trainer in Electronic Warfare (EW) and Radar, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the EW community by delivering and developing training across a broad spectrum of EW disciplines.

This role is particularly suited to professionals with experience in the practical operation or support of EW and radar systems within a defence environment. Ideal candidates will bring a strong understanding of EW principles, radar theory, signal behaviour, and system interpretation, supported by a technical background in electronics, RF systems, or communications engineering. They will also have a proven ability to translate complex technical subjects into clear and engaging training, alongside experience designing and delivering structured instructional content. Familiarity with defence or aerospace industry standards and secure working practices will further support success in this role.

As part of a dedicated EW training team, you will:

  • Design, develop and deliver high-quality training packages and courseware tailored to complex EW and Radar systems.
  • Incorporate EW and Radar specific knowledge, including Electronic Support Measures (ESM) and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM), into training solutions.
  • Support UK and international customers by developing bespoke learning solutions aligned to operational requirements.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts and engineers to translate complex technical content into effective training.
  • Conduct Training Needs Analysis (TNA) to shape relevant and effective instructional programmes.
  • Deliver training predominantly at UK sites, but with potential for regular travel overseas.

Access to professional development pathways, including the opportunity to pursue a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through our partnership with the University of Lincoln and Certificate in Education Assessment with the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors at University of Hertfordshire.

We are looking for individuals with a strong EW and Radar background. Key attributes include:

  • Essential:
  • Strong understanding of EW principles, including Electronic Support (ES), Electronic Attack (EA), and Electronic Protection (EP).
  • Strong knowledge of radar theory such as waveforms, signal behaviour, propagation, clutter, and system interpretation.
  • Technical background in electronics, RF systems, communications engineering, or a related discipline with practical experience operating, supporting, or analysing EW and radar systems within a defence environment.
  • Knowledge and/or Experience of training development, including course design and delivery using modern instructional techniques.
  • Ability to deliver technical training to diverse audiences, both in the UK and abroad.
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and training development applications.
  • A flexible and team-oriented approach, with experience working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to travel internationally for training delivery on a regular basis, no more than a total of 120 days per annum, not to exceed 8 weeks in any one delivery period.
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) an AET Level 3 teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Desirable:
  • Familiarity with modelling and simulation tools used in EW or radar training.
  • Awareness of current and emerging EW threats, technologies, and global trends.
  • Understanding of threat libraries, signal analysis tools, or mission data generation processes.
  • Knowledge of systems approach to training (SAT) such as JSP 822 etc.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS).
  • Awareness of international defence training practices and export controls.

This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.
