What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead the design, configuration, implementation, and support of secure networks within an on‑premise environment.
  • Provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line support on premise and at deployed sites for a limited number of high‑value users.
  • Take ownership of engineering delivery for one or more work packages, including planning, estimation, execution, and reporting.
  • Develop and review high‑ and low‑level network designs, implementation plans, and technical documentation.
  • Integrate, test, and support network components, ensuring compliance with performance and security requirements.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to other engineers and technicians within the team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, project teams, and customers to ensure solutions meet operational and technical requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, engineering standards, and governance activities.

What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)

  • Strong technical ability with demonstrable experience of delivering and supporting secure network solutions.
  • Adaptability and willingness to support a range of operational tasks, not solely project‑based engineering activity.

Core Areas (Must Have)

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, and routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, HSRP, QoS, VPNs, VLANs).
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco (CCNA/CCNP level) or equivalent multi‑vendor equipment (Dell, Palo Alto, Fortinet).
  • Ability to provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line support in a secure operational environment.
  • Experience with network security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, NAC).
  • Experience designing, configuring, and supporting networks within secure on‑premise environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring, diagnostic, and support tools.
  • Understanding of ITIL and service management frameworks.

Desirable

  • CCNA/At least one Cisco CCNP module or equivalent certification/experience (2‑4 years).
  • Knowledge of software‑defined networking (SDN, SD‑WAN).
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Exposure to SIEMs and wider cyber security toolsets.
  • Familiarity with MODCert and associated compliance processes.
  • Experience with SolarWinds for monitoring and infrastructure visibility.
  • Experience with enterprise IT services (Active Directory, DNS, PKI, monitoring).
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical governance.

Security Clearance

This role requires developed vetting (DV) clearance prior to starting and is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Basis Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and National Security Vetting (NSV).

Location

This role is fully site‑based, 5 days per week, at a secure customer site in London. No hybrid or remote working.
