Job Description

Project Engineering Manager – EW Tempest

Mission

Coordinate the project technical development, manage the engineering team across all disciplines, drumbeat the overall engineering workflow, overseeing costs, schedules, and risks for successful project delivery.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Lead the Engineering aspects of the IPT or Product Line (dependant on size of IPT there may be multiple PEMs)
  • Establish an effective multi-discipline Project Engineering Team to deliver the project outcomes
  • Ensure that the Engineering outcomes for success are clearly defined and well communicated
  • Ensure that the Engineering activities are well planned, costed and scheduled with the Project Planning and Project Management Community. The plans will follow best practice WBS and resource plans captured in SAP.
  • Ensure that the engineering team has a well-documented Engineering Management Plan and that the plan is followed
  • Ensure the Engineering team follows an effectively tailored Life Cycle Management Process, leading the Design Reviews.
  • Oversee the completion of the project outcomes to quality, cost and schedule ensuring that the project performance is accurately reported throughout
  • Maintain an effective dialogue with the IPTL, reporting salient status and risks to the project throughout
  • Work closely with the Systems Design Authority ensuring they are fully informed on technical progress and technical risks, requesting support as required
  • Lead for engineering reviews (Configuration Control Boards, Failure Review Boards, Cost Review Boards)
  • Supporting the IPTL in IPT level reviews such as PPRs, Contract reviews, Life Cycle Management, Risk Reviews, Product Cost Review Boards, Product Design Reviews, team briefs
  • Support the management of Suppliers and project Make or Buy decisions
  • Provide direction within GCAP EW in delivering the new International GCAP Contract. Continually engage with key internal and external stakeholders to collaborate effectively across the international and national partners.
  • Plan and setup the trilateral/international engineering tools, processes and facilities required for the International GCAP EW Engineering team to operate and collaborate in order to deliver the GCAP contract.
  • Lead the Leonardo UK Engineering Management in a trilateral forum with the other GCAP Partners to ensure that there is effective collaboration across the international partners and direct the GCAP EW Joint Systems Team.
  • Lead the GCAP EW contributions to the FCAS SoS work, including the coordination of SME expertise to higher‑level forums and interactions with other Leonardo UK Business Areas.
  • Provide oversight of the GCAP EW engineering effort in definition of the formal bid to execute the D&D phase. Ensure the Bid Winning Review Business Management System process is followed and adhered to; such that a competitive and accurate basis of work is derived. Outline the organisation, work package breakdown structure and engineering plan (in conjunction with Programme) to ensure a smooth transition between phases.
  • Oversee the continued professional and career development of engineers aspiring to transition into a Project Engineering Lead (PEL) role, providing mentorship and guidance.
