Job Description

Key Accountabilities/Areas of Responsibility

  • Provide advice to local, internal IPTs on HMRC issues, UK and foreign import / export processes to ensure understanding of and compliance with internal and external standards
  • Interface with the Despatch function and other functions across the site to provide guidance, respond to general queries and ensure the company operates as required
  • Support the preparation for external audits and attend the audits
  • Attend internal meetings onsite and at other UK sites to remain up to date and provide information to the wider International Trade team
  • Prepare reports for internal and external use
  • Make recommendations on process improvements
  • Approve exports on the SAP system

Essential

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge

  • Understanding of HMRC (Customs) including Tariff Coding, relief regimes such as Inward and Outward Processing regimes
  • Understanding of UK Strategic Control regulations including Control List Classifications (CLCs) to be able to validate CLCs on site products using an externally provided tool
  • Ability to learn, remain up to date with external changes and regulations
  • Confidence to challenge imports/exports to ensure compliance with all requirements
  • Ability to present information and articulate activities at meetings or during audit visits, using data and analysis to support line of reasoning

Desirable

  • Understanding of SAP system and other relevant internal / external process tools such as ‘SPIRE/LITE’ for applying for export licenses
  • Good understanding of trade compliance considerations such as foreign licensing for international support programmes within the aerospace, defence and security sector.
