We’re looking for graduate software engineers to join Leonardo’s 18‑month Engineering Graduate Programme. You’ll launch your career and make an impact on real‑world projects from day one.

Leonardo is a global leader in electronic and information technologies for defence systems, aerospace, data, infrastructure, land security, and sustainable smart solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Work on real‑time projects alongside leading scientists and engineers.
  • Participate in all aspects of product development, from solution concept through to system integration.
  • Collaborate with Software, Systems, Firmware, and Electronics Engineers to solve complex integration problems.
  • Contribute to advanced development methodologies and influence future software development within Leonardo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create high quality, robust code, fully document and record your work products, manage configuration, and report progress to your supervisor.
  • Develop practical skills in design techniques for aerospace applications and deepen your understanding of key processes and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: 2 1 Bachelors/Integrated Master’s degree (or higher such as MSc or PhD) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience of agile development.
  • Proficiency in an object‑oriented language such as C++.
  • Knowledge of UML (Unified Modelling Language).
  • Summer or industrial placement relevant to your degree.

Preferred

  • Highly desirable but not essential: Experience with system integration.
  • Background in aerospace or defence technology.

  • Starting salary £34,000 per annum + £1,000 welcome bonus.
  • £1,000 exit bonus upon successful completion of the programme.
  • Potential Temporary Accommodation Allowance (TAA) subject to criteria.
  • 12 flexi‑days of leave per year, pension scheme with up to 15% employer contribution, mental health and financial support.

Security Clearance

This role requires pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s BPSS. National Security Vetting (NSV) such as SC or DV may be required.
