Due to an increasing workload, we have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager within the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector of the EW line of business. The Engineering Manager will provide engineering leadership and management to a team of Systems and Software engineers, collaborating with the Chief Engineer and Senior Engineering Manager to identify, develop, deliver, and support technical solutions. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for developing their engineering team, providing mentoring, coaching, setting objectives, and appraising performance.
This opportunity offers a mix of office and hybrid working arrangements.
As an Engineering Manager in IMS, you will be responsible for:
- Leading all engineering aspects of the product/project, ensuring technical quality, schedule, and budget are maintained, and aligning solutions with the sector’s long-term business plan.
- Managing cross-site, multi-disciplinary engineering teams, ensuring roles are clearly defined.
- Creating positive working relationships with customers and partners to deliver product/project capabilities.
- Establishing and maintaining effective communication with the Engineering IPT, IPT lead, Project Manager, and Heads of function.
- Providing your team with clear expectations of engineering goals, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Working closely with the Systems Design Authority to keep them informed on technical progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensuring the design solution meets end-user requirements, is reliable, fully documented, and functions within its environment.
- Controlling project configuration and change management to maximize design reuse.
- Supporting supplier management and make-or-buy decisions.
- Capturing candidate concept solutions, including trade-off studies and end-user engagement.
- Delivering engineering projects effectively.
- Producing clear, concise engineering plans.
- Demonstrating good problem-solving skills.
- Communicating effectively with stakeholders across multiple sites.
- Exhibiting strong leadership and team-working skills.
- Managing complex situations with sound judgment.
- Maintaining commercial and business awareness.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and possibly overseas.
- Holding an engineering or scientific degree (or equivalent).
- Experience across the full development lifecycle.
