Apprenticeship Details
Our Aerospace Mechanical Technical Support Apprenticeship is suited for those interested in the theoretical side of engineering – planning, scheduling, design, development and test elements of mechanical engineering in a helicopter context. You will experience a variety of placements across the Engineering department, with the ultimate aim of moving you into a final placement area based on business requirements and the skills displayed during the apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship lasts four years and begins with an induction into Leonardo, followed by a Yeovil College induction to ensure that apprenticeship requirements and expectations are fully established. You will combine time between Yeovil College and work placements at Leonardo Helicopters, increasing your work placements as you move through the years.
Throughout the apprenticeship you may be placed in some or all of the following departmental areas:
- Structural Design – aircraft 3D & 2D production design work, change production drawings, investigation work leading to design proposals and solutions.
- Rotor & Transmission Design – produce 2D mechanical detailed drawings of assemblies.
- Materials Laboratory – inspection, investigation and testing of manufactured products from a materials perspective.
- Transmissions – design and analysis of transmission components, investigations involving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
During your apprenticeship, you will:
- Grow your knowledge of an engineering business.
- Develop practical skills in engineering and understanding key processes and technologies.
- Support early careers activities – you may work as a STEM ambassador in schools, colleges and universities.
Salary
The starting salary for this role is £17,850.
Qualifications
What we need from you – you must have (at a minimum):
- 5 GCSEs at a minimum of a C/4, including GCSE Maths at a minimum of a B/5. These grades are non‑negotiable.
Security Clearance
This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, which could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
