Your Impact

At Leonardo, our Test Engineers are hands-on problem solvers who design and execute tests, ensuring that solutions are robust, secure, and meet customer needs. Your work at Leonardo UK will see you take the lead in solving customer problems in an agile, innovative and team-centric manner. The role may involve a blended hybrid working model, with a mixture of working from home and working on site at one of our Leonardo offices to ensure close collaboration with the wider team and with our customers. Leonardo UK is seeking a Test Engineer to join the Cyber & Security Solutions Division team. This role is focused on supporting some of our critical programmes deliver the best outcomes for our customers.
What you will do as a Test Engineer
- Support system-level and integration testing across multiple domains (platform, network, application)
- Contribute to non-functional testing including performance, resilience, security, and scalability validation
- Execute test cases and procedures, ensuring results are captured accurately and issues are raised promptly.
- Contribute to the preparation of test plans, scripts, and supporting documentation.
- Set up and configure test environments to support system, integration, and acceptance testing.
- Investigate and troubleshoot routine test issues, escalating complex defects where necessary.
- Support defect tracking and resolution activities across development and test teams.
- Ensure testing activities are carried out in line with agreed standards, governance, and secure working practices.
- Suggest and contribute to improvements in test processes and practices.
What you’ll bring
- Solid foundation in testing across software, system, or infrastructure environments, with the ability to execute structured tests
- Good problem-solving skills, with the confidence to investigate and resolve routine issues
- Understanding of system, integration, and non-functional testing (e.g. performance, resilience, security)
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams
Core areas (must have):
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle and the role of testing
- Awareness of system and non-functional testing approaches (performance, security, resilience)
- Familiarity with test design and execution techniques
- Experience using defect management and issue tracking tools (e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps)
- Ability to configure and use test environments (Windows/Linux, basic networking)
- Awareness of cyber security principles and secure testing practices
- Awareness of testing within secure, regulated, or defence environments
Desirable:
- Exposure to automated test tools or frameworks (e.g. Selenium, JUnit, PyTest)
- Exposure to performance, load, or security testing tools and techniques
- Awareness of Agile or SAFe delivery methods and ceremonies
- Experience with test management tools (Xray, TestRail, Zephyr)
- ISTQB Foundation-level certification or equivalent knowledge
- Awareness of performance or load testing tools (e.g. JMeter, LoadRunner)
- Exposure to testing infrastructure, platform, or security-focused systems
Security Clearance
This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) will apply. This role requires Developed Vetting (DV) clearance prior to starting.
