Job Description: Your impact

An exciting opportunity for a Technical Crew Instructor, based at Leonardo Helicopters, is now open for applications. We have designed, built, tested and trained customers at Yeovil for over 80 years and Leonardo’s facility is now the UK’s only end-to-end rotary wing manufacturer – Our success depends on the professionalism and capability of our people.

To maintain the highest standards in safety, mission readiness and crew competency we are looking for an experienced and motivated Technical Crew Instructor (TCI) to design, develop, and deliver flight training courses to customer and company aircrew, in accordance with contractual obligations, prioritising aviation safety.

Training delivery includes classroom-based instruction, Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs), and live aircraft, both in the UK and abroad. The role also involves providing Technical Crew Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support to other company departments (e.g., Programmes, Engineering) and customers, as well as supporting non-training flight operations.

This role is distinct in that Operational Role Training is required to be developed and delivered with a particular focus on Maritime Operations.

What you will do as Technical Crew Instructor (TCI)

  • Conduct Training Needs Analysis (TNA) or other assessments with customers as directed by the Chief Flying Instructor (CFI), in collaboration with Flight Training & Services Design (FT&SD).
  • Deliver training to meet customer requirements and ensure other instructors uphold equivalent standards.
  • Promote the highest possible standards of student flying.
  • Support marketing, sales, bids, and product development.
  • Conduct all flight training operations in accordance with Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulations, utilising the LH Contractor Flying Approved Organisation Scheme (CFAOS), or in compliance with the regulations of the training aircraft’s state of registration.
  • Contribute to regular reviews of Flight Training Standardisation, Safety, and Quality Systems.
  • Develop and foster professional working relationships with customers at all levels, including civil and military foreign and domestic organisations.
  • Undertake domestic and international travel, including outside core working hours, as required.

What you’ll bring

Essential Qualifications:

  • Aircrew Instructor qualification from UK Military (B1 Qualified Observer Instructor (QOI) minimum).
  • Minimum 1500 hrs flight time.
  • Minimum 500 hrs instruction.

Desirable Qualification:

  • UK Military instructor A2 category.
  • UK Security Clearance.
  • Instructional experience on an AW product.
  • Anti-Submarine Warfare operational experience.
  • Search and Rescue operational experience.
  • Night Vision Goggle qualified.
  • Previous experience of course design and development.
  • Familiar with Defence System Approach to Training (DSAT).
