We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our onsite team at Southampton. The successful candidate will deal with all aspects of machine lifecycle, in a predominantly hands-on role. You will be required to fault find electrical and electronic problems in state-of-the-art computer-controlled semiconductor equipment to logic-based systems from the 1980s, reverse engineering systems when the OEM no longer exists, and find solutions. You will also be required to design and develop one-off bespoke test solutions; every project is different and may be a mixture of electrical, electronic, mechanical, vacuum systems, pneumatic, lasers or software. Projects will also require costing, budget approval and the preparation of documentation (operator manuals, maintenance manuals, circuit diagrams and technical construction files).

Responsibilities include working independently and as part of a team, managing your own workload. As a senior member of the team, you will mentor and coach less experienced members in various technical areas. Your project work will require awareness of current innovations, new products and services that may benefit us now or in the future, and you will actively meet CPD requirements. The successful candidate will also support production on ad-hoc occasions and will need a basic knowledge of calibration, maintenance and SAP systems.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electronics Engineering, Engineering Science, Physics or another relevant discipline (or possessing equivalent industry experience), with expertise in a related professional engineering specialism demonstrated through an appropriate qualification.
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in the design, build, maintenance and operation of high-vacuum systems.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety, COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of PLC or computer programming.
  • Desirable: knowledge of cryogenics.
  • Desirable: knowledge of high-pressure gases.
  • Desirable: knowledge of PUWER and UKCA regulations.
  • Desirable: knowledge of AutoCAD.

Security Clearance: This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply; this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).

Benefits:

  • Time to Recharge: Enjoy generous leave with the opportunity to accrue up to 12 additional flexi-days each year.
  • Secure your Future: Benefit from our award-winning pension scheme with up to 15% employer contribution.
  • Your Wellbeing Matters: Free access to mental health support, financial advice and employee-led networks championing inclusion and diversity.
