At Leonardo, our Network Systems Engineers are at the heart of designing, configuring, and supporting secure networks that keep our customers connected and protected. We are looking for a Principal / Lead Networking Systems Engineer based at our dedicated site in Southampton.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, configuration, and support of secure networks for naval platforms.
  • Work within an Integrated Project Team and report to the Project System Design Authority.
  • Define, execute, and validate tests across IP networks and hosted systems.
  • Document and verify network configurations and designs for new and existing systems.
  • Collaborate closely with customers during verification and validation to ensure systems meet requirements.
  • Provide post‑deployment support, including obsolescence management and approval of configuration changes.

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of core networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, OSI model).
  • Practical experience with network implementation, fault finding, and resolution.
  • Experience designing and architecting network and server infrastructures, including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.
  • Hands‑on experience with COTS IP network equipment, particularly Cisco, and COTS virtual environment software.
  • Experience in COTS server software such as Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.
  • Demonstrable experience as a COTS IP networks practitioner; equivalent or higher than Cisco CCNA.
  • Broad experience of all engineering lifecycle phases.
  • Knowledge of network security concepts and secure configurations.

Desirable

  • Use of DOORs in requirements management.
  • Experience with COTS virtual environment backup software.
  • Experience with COTS network management and diagnostic software such as SolarWinds and Wireshark.
  • Experience with user Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) server software.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management tools, particularly Teamcenter.
  • Understanding of VPNs, VLANs, and routing protocols.

Security Clearance

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and additional National Security Vetting (NSV) controls, including eligibility for the Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).

Salary Range

£50,000 – £80,000, depending on grade and experience.
