Your Impact

Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for a Senior IT Engineer to join our business in Lincoln. Working within a small, multi‑disciplinary team, you will support and maintain project IT infrastructure, including systems maintenance, imaging, backups, and training support, as well as assisting systems engineering integration activities. Our IT systems are modern and therefore this role represents a progressive career choice for the right applicant. On-the-job training can be provided for elements of this role however, a solid background and experience in the core principles below is expected. This is a full‑time, on‑site role (Monday to Friday) working with modern IT systems, with occasional UK and overseas customer support.

What You’ll Bring

Working within our Integrated Mission Solutions sector in Lincoln, you will apply your technical expertise across a range of IT activities, including:

  • Supporting and maintaining project IT infrastructure (servers, workstations, and applications) to ensure high availability during live projects and training.
  • Installing, commissioning, testing, and supporting IT hardware and software, including troubleshooting issues and maintaining accurate engineering documentation.
  • Proactively identifying and resolving potential IT risks, contributing to site acceptance testing, and supporting formal query resolution for deployed teams.
  • Providing end‑user support and on‑the‑job training to colleagues, including UK‑based and international personnel.
  • Working collaboratively with local teams, other Leonardo sites, and customer stakeholders, offering technical advice where required.

Technical Experience

  • Windows Server and Windows 10 administration
  • Backup and recovery management
  • Virtualised and physical infrastructure (e.g. VMware, servers, network devices)
  • Windows domain services (e.g. DNS, DHCP, WSUS, Exchange, SQL Server)
  • Application deployment and virtualisation (e.g. VMware Horizon, Citrix)
  • Networking fundamentals (IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, routing, switching, security)

Personal Skills

  • Self‑motivated with strong problem‑solving and decision‑making ability
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience working with Middle Eastern customers and/or military environments
  • Formal IT qualifications (or equivalent practical experience)

Personal Attributes

  • Excels within a close team working environment and is supportive and respectful of colleagues
  • Ability to work unsupervised, on their own initiative, with different cultures and nationalities.
  • Willing to work occasional irregular hours in reaction to urgent requirements.

Security Clearance

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
