The opportunity: At Leonardo, we are looking for an Electrical Safety Specialist. Leonardo is a global high-tech company and one of the key players in Aerospace, Defence and Security. In this role, you will work within our Engineering Team to support the management aspects relating to Electrical Safety.

As an Electrical Safety Specialist, you’ll work as part of a team who provide a business support service including advice and guidance to Leonardo's Edinburgh & Newcastle business operations and functions, to ensure the business remains compliant with UK and other relevant laws and regulations. The role may involve some national travel and possibly international travel.

What you’ll do as an Electrical Safety Specialist:

  • Support risk assessments undertaken by the company, when requested, by providing subject matter expertise to ensure that sources of risk have been identified and assessed, and measures identified for preventing (or controlling) such risk and for demonstrating statutory compliance.
  • Review and approve General Risk Assessments (GRAs) as Specialist Reviewer.
  • Provide subject related advice as required.
  • Support the Health Safety & Environment Team in the investigation of relevant incidents.
  • Support audits (both external and internal) as required, which will be pre-arranged.
  • Advise on what statutory records are to be maintained in accordance with legal and Company requirements.
  • Support in the review and maintenance of the associated in-house electrical safety documents.
  • Lead site Electrical Safety Committee meetings, preparation, maintenance and delivery of electrical safety training.

This role is limited to occupational safety, rather than product safety.

We would like to hear from you if you have a combination of the following:

  • Chartered Engineer and/or Degree with relevant experience in electrical/electronic engineering.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of subject specific/relevant hazards, controls and best practice.
  • A detailed understanding of subject specific applicable legislation (e.g. EAWR).
  • A detailed understanding of general workplace safety legislation (e.g. HSWA, PUWER).
  • A detailed understanding of standards for equipment designed to be used in laboratories (e.g. BS EN61010-1).
  • Necessary/practical experience with electrical safety.
  • Security Clearance: You must be eligible for full security clearance.
