That next generation is Tempest - the RAF's newest combat aircraft, coming into service from 2035 to replace the existing Eurofighter Typhoon. Based at our Edinburgh or Newcastle site we have an opportunity for a talented DevOps Engineer to join our enthusiastic and highly motivated Tempest software engineering team. This is an incredible opportunity to get involved at the start of a cutting edge product development that will secure the UK's position as a global leader in combat air for decades to come.
As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll…
- Enhance the Tempest project’s DevOps capability, especially in the areas of automated test, automated deployment to hardware, and acceleration of software releases.
- Work in or alongside the central DevOps team to identify enhancements to the pipelines required by the software engineering team.
- Develop and maintain our DevOps tooling, making it robust and enhancing the developer experience.
- Support troubleshooting, and provide guidance on secure CI/CD practices across the team.
- Help to administer and integrate core tooling and infrastructure, including build systems, artifact repositories, and security scanning tools, while managing server resources and ensuring compliance with security standards.
- Support rigorous qualification of the tooling and infrastructure to enable its use with projects adhering to the DO-178C software development standard.
We are a multidisciplinary team looking for candidates with a diverse mix of skills and experiences. An ideal candidate doesn’t need to meet every requirement, what matters most is your ability to learn, adapt and contribute.
What you’ll bring Key areas we value:
- Programming/Scripting (e.g. C++, Python, JavaScript).
- CI/CD pipeline design and administration (Jenkins, Gitlab).
- CI/CD application and server administration.
- Automation, monitoring and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
- Writing clear technical documentation, guides and specifications.
- Containerisation technologies (Docker, Podman).
Beneficial Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and engineering mindset.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle.
- Knowledge of the DO-178C software development standard and associated DO-330 Tool Qualification guidelines.
- Effective communication and teamwork.
- Curiosity, creativity and a drive for continuous improvement.
