Do you want to play a hands-on role in maintaining the integrity of innovative systems that help keep people safe? Our Electronics Warfare (EW) and Future Combat Air Systems (FCAS) Design Integrity function are currently recruiting a Configuration and Change Control Engineer to join their Configuration department. Reporting to the Lead Configuration and Change Manager, you’ll help to oversee the configuration and engineering change across the product lifecycle, ensuring all hardware, software, firmware, and documentation are accurately identified, controlled, and traceable within the TCU tool in line with defence and aerospace standards, contractual, and regulatory requirements. This role will be working on a hybrid basis (3 days per week on site, 2 days per week working from home) from our Luton site.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and control configuration baselines (functional, allocated, and product baselines).
  • Identify and manage Configuration Items (CIs) across hardware, software, and firmware domains.
  • Maintain configuration records including part numbers, versions, revisions, variants, and effectivity.
  • Ensure bidirectional traceability between requirements, design data, verification evidence, and delivered product.
  • Maintain the Master Record Index (MRI) or equivalent configuration records.
  • Administer the end-to-end change control process using TCU as the authoritative change management tool.
  • Support and participate in Change Control Boards (CCB), including preparation of change documentation and agendas.
  • Classify, process, and manage Class I and Class II changes, including impact assessment on safety, airworthiness, cost, schedule, and supportability.
  • Ensure approved changes are correctly implemented, verified, and re-baselined.
  • Use TCU as the primary system for configuration and change control data.
  • Ensure configuration data integrity, version control, and status accuracy within TCU.
  • Maintain access control, security markings, and export control compliance within the tool.
  • Support audits and continuous improvement of configuration and change processes within TCU.
  • Ensure configuration and change control activities comply with applicable standards and regulations (Such as DEF STAN 05-057 contractual CM requirements, and airworthiness guidance where applicable).
  • Support configuration and change control activities across design, development, manufacture, in-service support, and obsolescence.
  • Provide configuration status accounting and reporting to programmes and stakeholders.
  • Support release to manufacture, release to service, and in-service modification activities.
  • Work closely with engineering, systems, quality, safety, manufacturing, supply chain, and programme teams.
  • Provide guidance and training on configuration and change control processes and TCU usage and act as the focal point for configuration and change-related queries and issues.

Qualifications

  • Experience in configuration and change control within defence, aerospace, or another highly regulated industry is desirable.
  • Ideally a good understanding of configuration management principles, change classification, and baseline control.
  • Understanding of engineering lifecycles and controlled product development environments is desirable.
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with sensitive, classified, or export-controlled information.
  • We are keen to hear from any applicants even if you might not have experience listed above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.

Security Clearance

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
