Role Purpose

To provide high-quality eye care and promote eye health in line with General Optical Council (GOC) standards, ensuring the best possible visual outcomes and overall wellbeing for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and contact lens consultations
  • Deliver additional clinical services (e.g., dry eye assessments) in line with qualifications and business needs
  • Practice in accordance with GOC regulations and professional standards
  • Advise patients on visual health, including lifestyle and preventative care
  • Work collaboratively with Dispensing Opticians and support staff to ensure a seamless patient journey
  • Provide clear, patient-focused recommendations with an emphasis on clinical benefit
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and contemporaneous patient records in line with legal and professional requirements
  • Use and maintain specialist diagnostic equipment (e.g., OCT, fundus camera, tonometry, visual fields)
  • Stay up to date with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements
  • Contribute to practice growth through excellent patient care and communication
  • Participate in clinical governance and quality assurance processes

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc (Hons) Optometry or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the General Optical Council (GOC)
  • Experience working in a community practice setting
  • Additional accreditations (e.g., Glaucoma Referral Refinement, Post-Cataract) are advantageous
