We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Physicist with a deep technical focus on Linear Accelerator (Linac) performance, precision dosimetry, and regulatory compliance. Working within the Product Development Team, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our radiotherapy delivery systems. You will drive design direction from initial concept through to regulatory compliance and the global release of new and existing medical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Experimental Design: Lead the design and execution of complex experiments to evaluate the physical and clinical performance of medical equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Perform precise measurements and data analysis to demonstrate compliance with international medical device standards (e.g., IEC 60601-2-1).
  • Engineering Collaboration: Act as a bridge between physics and engineering; advise on the design, development, and iterative improvement of medical devices to ensure clinical efficacy.
  • Verification & Validation (V&V): Execute V&V testing protocols specifically focused on the dosimetric performance and beam characteristics of the delivery system.
  • Technical Documentation: Generate high-fidelity physics reports and technical files required to demonstrate the safety and performance of equipment for regulatory submissions (FDA, CE Mark, etc.).
  • Systems Lifecycle: Serve as the SME for the installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance protocols of Linear Accelerators within the R&D environment.

Education & Experience

  • Academic Background: Master’s or PhD in Medical Physics, Physics, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Industry Experience: 3+ years of experience with a heavy emphasis on medical device compliance, Linac QA, and commissioning.
  • Standards Expertise: Extensive experience designing and executing tests to demonstrate compliance with medical device safety and performance standards.

Technical Skills

  • Clinical Tools: Proficiency with Treatment Planning Systems (TPS) and a wide array of QA software/hardware (e.g., 3D water tanks, profilers, electrometers).
  • Mathematical Precision: A high degree of accuracy in performing complex mathematical calculations and physical measurements.
  • Dosimetry: Expert-level understanding of absolute and relative dosimetry protocols (e.g., TG-51 or TRS-398).

Soft Skills

  • Translational Communication: Ability to translate complex physics concepts into actionable advice for both engineering teams and clinical end-users.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root-cause analysis in complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead projects, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and influence design direction.

About Leo Cancer Care

Cancer is one of the biggest killers that we face today, and it affects us all. 50% of all patients diagnosed with cancer should receive Radiation Therapy as part of their treatment, but due to the cost, size, and complexity of current technology, the number that do is around half of that. Current Radiation Therapy is delivered with a patient delivering radiation from different angles to kill the tumour. Leo Cancer Care was founded with one clear goal: to bring a more human experience to the entire process. Leo Cancer Care is helping make changes in Radiation Therapy by shifting to upright patient positioning, imaging and treatment. We do what we do to find a better way, a better way to treat cancer and create a paradigm shift in radiation therapy to benefit all.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds, regardless of race, colour, sex, age, pregnancy, marital status, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression or disability.
