For the area of Quality Management, we invite applications for the role of Laboratory Technician, part time, in Grimsby, UK
Purpose of the role:
The Laboratory Technician role will involve conducting chemical and physical testing on raw materials, process intermediates & fibre; recording results; and reporting any that are out of specification.
The working schedule will alternate each week as follows:
Week 1 – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Week 2 – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
You will also participate in a rota which will include working one Sunday in four, with the proceeding Friday off work.
Main tasks:
- You will ensure that “Work Requests” are carried out as required, conducting routine and ad hoc chemical and physical tests, recording and archiving test data, and highlighting problems, variations, and out-of-specification results
- You will develop and continuously review new and existing laboratory procedures
- You will arrange and conduct the calibration of all laboratory instruments & the Forté meter
- You will provide Certificates of Conformance and Certificates of Analysis as required
- You will ensure that SHE standards and personal work performance and behaviours are consistently managed to meet external and internal requirements/standards, maintaining high housekeeping standards so that the laboratory is a safe place to work in and visit
Your ideal profile:
- You have at least GCSEs in Maths & English (grade A-C), or equivalent
- You have good awareness of the importance of safety within a laboratory environment
- You are dedicated, hardworking and self-motivated, with the ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team, and able to multi-task whilst remaining accurate, careful and disciplined
- You are flexible, and willing to adopt new practices and take an active role in developing the safety culture
- You have good verbal communication skills and the ability to discuss issues logically; and you have basic report writing skills
- Experience with analytical chemistry testing, wet chemistry, inaccuracies, sources of error & sampling techniques would be an advantage
