Purpose & key responsibilities of the role

We are seeking to appoint a full-time Occupational Specialist within the SHE Team. Reporting to the SHE Manager, the role is responsible for promoting proactive safety and cultural improvement, ensuring continued compliance, and driving ongoing enhancement across all aspects of occupational health and safety. This includes risk assessment, event investigation, and the analysis and evaluation of OSH data. The post holder will raise awareness of health and safety management across all departments and champion a safer working environment for all employees, service providers and visitors. The role also includes deputising for the SHE Manager when required.

This role will be offered on an open-ended contract. **A****pplicants should be aware that the site is expected to cease operations at the end of December 2027, although official dates have not yet been confirmed. A generous financial incentive scheme is available for those who join the business and remain.**

Principal Accountabilities

Compliance oversight β€” Ensures compliance to health and safety requirements across the site

SHE performance improvement β€” Drives improvement in core SHE leading and lagging indicators

Risk assessment management β€” Oversees the site risk assessment process and drives continual improvement

Event reporting consistency β€” Ensures a consistent approach to event reporting and investigation, supporting line management where necessary

SHEARs system maintenance β€” Monitors and maintains the SHE event reporting system (SHEARs)

Support for wider SHE programmes β€” Assists with other departmental and regulatory programmes of work – SHE strategy, audits, inspections, regulatory visits, exercises and emergency response

Global QESH participation β€” Participates in Global QESH meetings and deputises for the SHE Manager when required

Your ideal profile

Relevant qualifications β€” A degree ideally in a respective area of SHE and/or NEBOSH qualification

Professional membership β€” Member of a professional body (IOSH, IEMA, etc)

Industry experience β€” Experience of SHE in industry and/or health and safety management systems, regulatory and non-regulatory audits, producing and delivering training packages, event investigation methods and risk assessment

Legislative knowledge β€” Up-to-date understanding of SHE legislation and guidance, with an appreciation of the impact of failure of key systems

Core skills β€” Structured and analytical thinking, effective communication and negotiation skills

Training capability β€” Competent trainer with intercultural sensitivity
