Lenovo's intellectual property legal team supports a wide range of initiatives and programs designed to ensure our products are properly vetted with respect to privacy, security, and open-source compliance, among other things. We are currently looking to add an experienced Open Source Compliance Adviser to the team. This is a great opportunity for an adaptable and collaborative team player to join a fast-paced technology company to continue developing and implementing an industry leading open-source compliance program through education, organization, and automation.
You will be a part of Lenovo's Worldwide Open-Source Compliance team and will collaborate across the legal and product development organizations to continue to improve and incorporate open-source compliance processes integrating best practices into the software product development process. Processes and procedures to be implemented will include software scans, inbound and outbound reviews, and documentation creation, along with guidance and education for the developers. This role requires someone who understands software structures and open-source licenses and who builds strong relationships with development stakeholders to enable the success of the business.
Responsibilities:- Partner with Software Development and Business teams, focused on Lenovo's fast-growing services business, to help the Open-Source Compliance team implement best practices for open source and third-party software compliance.
- Support execution of company policies and licensing obligations for open-source software across multiple products and platforms.
- Help implement and manage standards, processes, and controls for open source and third-party compliance.
- Participate in the analysis of systems and products across multiple development teams and organizations; and guide software product teams in compliance with open-source and other third-party software obligations in support of the company's global policies.
- Serve as the first point of contact on open-source and product release review matters for the product and legal team in China, exercising judgement in further engagement and escalations for resolution.
- Track Open-Source license compliance issues before the product is shipped.
- Help to develop and/or deliver training and/or communications on open-source, product release diligence topics and tools.
- Identify and raise concerns/risks to product management.
- 8-10 years of directly relevant experience in managing open-source and other 3rd party materials in enterprise software.
- Understanding of open-source licenses and their compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of open-source and code scanning tools in connection with compliance efforts, including FOSSA, Fossology, BlackDuck and others.
- Working knowledge of server Operating Systems (RedHat, SuSE, Windows, VMWare, Docker).
- Technical competence with programming languages such as C, Python, JavaScript, or Java.
- Experience with automated build tools, version control systems, and artifact repositories such as Jenkins, Git, Docker, Maven.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizations, including successfully initiating, managing, and completing simultaneous projects and new initiatives with cross-functional teams under deadline pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, business judgment, strategic thinking, work ethic, flexibility, ability to work independently and a passion for cutting-edge technology.
- Superior language, written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Programming, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or a related field is required; candidates with a BS/BA in Information Systems or Industrial Engineering and relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
