We are excited to be working with a leading global pharmaceutical company based in Northern Ireland in their search for an ambitious Legal Counsel to join their highly impressive legal team.

In your new role as Legal Counsel you will advise and assist within the IP & Data practice area, as part of the Corporate & Legal Affairs team (“CLA”). Providing counsel on a wide range of legal and contractual matters, including intellectual property, data privacy and governance as well as negotiation of commercial agreements (suppliers, customers and other third parties) across multiple jurisdictions and effective administration of intellectual property, data privacy and commercial contract matters generally.

Legal:

  • Draft, review and negotiate a range of intellectual property licences, data privacy agreements and commercial contracts (customer and supplier) on behalf of the Company Group and its global affiliates in accordance with agreed contracting parameters.
  • Manage busy workload (including contract review, responding to central inbox queries and involvement in strategic projects) in accordance with agreed timelines and established department processes.
  • Identify and manage contractual risks and escalate matters to Legal Counsel, Corporate Counsel and VP level as appropriate.
  • Assist with development and implementation of contract and document templates, playbooks and training materials for the wider team.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to Contracts Associates and Contracts Administrators.
  • Advise the business on intellectual property, data privacy and governance and other general legal matters and compliance with applicable laws and support with the management of patent and trade mark portfolios, including liaising with external patent attorneys and trade mark agents.
  • Support other CLA practice areas (including Corporate, Commercial and Property/Construction) as required from time to time.
  • Undertake any other duties within the competency of the post holder.

Customer Service:

  • Carry out all tasks accurately and efficiently and respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders on legal and commercial matters in a timely manner and in accordance with departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Participate in calls and face to face meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including attendance at off-site meetings where required.
  • Provide support for business development activities and opportunities within the company.
  • Take minutes and generate agendas and action items for meetings and teleconferences.
  • Work with external legal counsel on out-sourced matters, including agreeing fee estimates, monitoring work and communicating advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates to Legal Counsel, Corporate Counsel and VP level, as appropriate, on workload and work status.
  • Escalate any issues or delays that arise to Legal Counsel, Corporate Counsel and VP level as appropriate in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a professional approach at all times while representing Almac.

What You Need To Succeed:

  • You will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister in Northern Ireland with 1 to 3 years PQE gained in either Northern Ireland, England and Wales or the Republic of Ireland. (More less PQE will be considered subject to relevant experience).
  • Degree qualified (2:1 or above) Intellectual property, data privacy and governance and commercial experience gained in a commercial law firm or in-house environment.
  • Experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating intellectual property licences, data privacy agreements and commercial contracts (customer and supplier).
  • Strong technical intellectual property, data privacy and governance and contract law knowledge and legal drafting skills.
  • Experience of developing intellectual property and privacy focussed template agreements, playbooks and provision of associated training.
  • Experience of using legal-focused software/technology tools, e.g. to support with document reviews, mark-ups and/or use of playbooks.
  • Experience of management of patent and trade mark portfolios, including liaising with external patent attorneys and trade mark agents.
  • Experience working with a broad range of legal practice areas and issues.
  • Previous experience within a role which requires management of multiple tasks simultaneously whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy in all work carried out.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and escalate matters as appropriate.
