Your New Role In your new role as the Senior Legal Counsel, you will support the General Counsel and Company Secretary in delivering high-quality legal advice, risk mitigation, and corporate governance across the Group.
In this role, you will lead on providing commercial legal advice for complex, high-value capital projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting successful project delivery.
You will also manage the in-house legal and governance team, oversee external legal services, and balance resources effectively.
The ideal candidate will be a commercially focused legal professional with significant experience in providing strategic legal guidance and handling high profile matters, while mitigating legal and reputational risks.
You will work closely with and support the General Counsel and Company Secretary in the delivery of high quality, strategic legal advice, risk mitigation and guidance on good corporate governance across the Group.
You will be required to effectively lead on and deliver commercial legal advice and risk mitigation solutions to the Group on large, complex and/or high risk capital projects and programmes, to support the successful delivery of its capital projects and to ensure regulatory compliance.
You will also be responsible for the day to day management of the inhouse legal and governance team and the external Legal Services Framework contract, ensuring that appropriate legal advice and representation is provided to the business, all the while balancing resources and financial constraints.
You will build excellent working relationships with internal customers ensuring their needs are met.
Specifically, you will provide commercially focused legal advice on complex, high profile matters offering support and expert guidance to the team and colleagues across the organisation.
You will provide guidance on corporate governance matters to protect the Group from legal and reputational risk and promote high standards of accountability, integrity and probity throughout the organisation.
What You Need To Succeed As the Senior Legal Counsel you will; Be a qualified Solicitor with a Northern Ireland practicing certificate with at least 5 years or more post-qualification experience.
Experience at a senior level with a minimum of 2 years providing strategic and business orientated legal and risk mitigation advice and solutions to Senior Management, either in an in-house legal role, or as an external legal advisor to Senior Management of a large complex organisation.
Experience in the successful delivery of high value or high-profile legal disputes or challenges, or complex and high value legal transactions, and providing commercial risk management advice in relation to the same.
A minimum of 2 years experience of managing a legal team including overseeing work, assigning tasks, ensuring quality standards and deadlines are met, and providing guidance and mentorship.
Demonstrable experience of excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence decision making at senior management level.
