Lennoxvale is conducting a market search on behalf of a prominent Northern Irish Public / Private Company for a Senior Company Lawyer to join their In House Legal team for a maternity cover contract. The company’s Head Office is based in Belfast City Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performance legal team, handle a broad array of legal matters, and get involved in critical capital projects right at the heart of Northern Ireland.

In your new role as the Senior Company Lawyer, you will provide specialised senior legal support to General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel, CEO, Executives, and senior managers, ensuring that the business receives the legal and related support necessary to enable the effective delivery of their objectives and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks. The following reflects typical duties:
- Legal advice: Provide legal advice and support to senior managers and executives across all operational areas and divisions of the business. Offer practical advice on a diverse range of legal matters transecting multiple jurisdictions and in a highly regulated environment. Collaborate with the business to achieve positive commercial outcomes and avoid unnecessary risk. Instruct and obtain specialist legal advice from external counsel when appropriate.
- Capital projects: Provide support to the General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel, and project teams on bespoke, complex, and high-value capital projects. Act as an integral part of project teams advising on novel and complex projects, cross-jurisdictional projects with an annual capital spend of circa £280m.
- Corporate governance: Develop policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance with relevant legislation and best practice. Assist with the Corporate Governance cycle, including CEO Assurances, preparation of Corporate Governance Statement, Registers of Interest, Gifts and Hospitality, and Transactions, and Companies House filings.
- Communication and Stakeholder engagement: Develop strong relationships with staff across the business, including the Executive team, to ensure good understanding of their priorities and encourage collaboration with the legal team to minimise risk. Support the General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel in liaising with DfI on all matters pertaining to the Corporate Governance Framework and Partnership Agreement.
- Risk management: Be proactive and fully involved in risk management, advising the business on options and opportunities to mitigate risk. Promote legal compliance throughout the business and prepare and deliver training to reduce risks.
- Commercial role: Draft and negotiate complex and high-value commercial agreements.
- Financial Management role: Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas like the annual report and accounts, Companies House submissions, budget management, and contract management for the crown commercial services framework. Oversee work allocation across the team and make decisions on resource allocation (insourcing/outsourcing), balancing cost with expertise, and negotiate budgets with external legal providers for complex capital projects.
As the Senior Company Lawyer, you will need to be a qualified solicitor, holding or capable of holding a Northern Ireland practising certificate, with at least 5 years post-qualification experience. You should have demonstrable experience (minimum of 2 years) of providing strategic and business-oriented legal and risk mitigation advice and solutions, either in an in-house legal role or as an external legal advisor to a large complex organisation. Experience in managing high-value or high-profile legal disputes or challenges, or complex and high-value legal transactions is essential. Proven ability to build trusted relationships and effectively communicate with, and influence, senior management is required. Experience in commercial property/developments/estates matters (not solely domestic conveyancing) is desirable.
